Matthew Springer
Matthew G. Springer is a co-founder and Managing Partner at Basis Policy Research, bringing over 20 years of experience in leading large-scale research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects in the education sector. Matt has been instrumental in driving educational innovations and shaping policies to enhance the educator workforce and expand educational opportunities for students. He frequently provides consultation to public leaders, government agencies, and international organizations, including entities such as the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Government Accountability Office, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. His research has been featured in leading academic journals such as the American Educational Research Journal, Education Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Journal of Political Economy: Microeconomics, and Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness. Before rejoining Basis in 2024, Matt held the prestigious Robena and Walter E. Hussman Jr. Distinguished Professorship at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill from 2018 to 2024 and was a public policy and education professor at Vanderbilt University from 2006 to 2018. In addition to his role at Basis, Matt serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness.
